Our motto at Goings Basement Finishing and Remodeling is: "You Begin the Dream, We Finish It." Personal circumstances
required the new owner of this home to convert it to a wheelchair-friendly environment. When the home was
originally built, it had an attached carport, which had been converted to a beauty salon by the previous owners. The
home was also very chopped up with many small rooms.
The dream began with removing walls and opening up the home as much as possible. The small galley kitchen was
totally removed and a new custom-designed kitchen created. The new kitchen includes built-in wall ovens and microwave,
stovetop with stainless steel hood and an opening over the kitchen sink looking out into the newly-created family room.
The old salon was converted into a wonderful family room with an adjacent exercise area. The family room features
surround sound and a custom-designed entertainment center for the big screen TV. It also sports a convenient
full-service wet bar.
The old covered porch was enclosed and converted into a wheelchair-accessible tiled entry. It provides access to
the main living area as well as the family room. The original living room was opened up and converted into a large
dining area with a small serving bar and a cozy sitting area featuring a natural gas fireplace.
The original half-bath was converted into a three-quarter bath with a tiled shower. The doorway was moved in the
full bath to directly serve the wheelchair accessible master bedroom. All the carpet on the main level was removed. All flooring
is either tile or cherry wood.
The basement had the old dark wood paneling throughout. This was removed and drywalled to brighten up the
rooms. Additional work was done in the basement bath area.
Several things were done on the exterior also. The front of the salon was updated with cement-board stucco siding
and painted to flow with the existing exterior finish. In addition, the detached garage was stained and a large Timbertech deck was built
around the above ground pool. A concrete ramped sidewalk was built from the garage to the deck for handicap accessibility.
